Basic Dog Training
What is it that you actually need to do when start training your dog? There are different basic technique’s that should be covered during the training that will be the fundament of achieving your goal; to modify your dog’s behavior. Here are some of the basics things that should be covering when starting:
The first thing is to recall. Your dog needs to learn to come to you when you call him. This is necessary if for example there is any danger in traffic or when walking outside, so that you know that the dog will come to you. This is the foundation of the training which will be built on during the next stages.
The next stage would be to teach your dog the command “sit” and “down”. This teaches them to control themselves and will help to control the dog in case if there are other dogs around and you want to avoid any conflict.
Potty training is something that every dog needs to learn at the initial stage of training. This will help to improve the ability for the dog to live in a household with a family.
One of the hardest things to teach your dog is to bark only when it is necessary. You have to teach the dog the ability to bark on demand. A way of practicing that is the get the dogs excited about something, and then reward him. Once you get the dog excited and barking you can also try to make them stop on demand. The key to this is to keep rewarding the dog when succeeding.
The next stage of training is to control the aggression of your dog. In order to do that you first need to understand where the aggression is coming from. Some dogs naturally develop aggressive behavior if for example their territory is being attacked; they naturally want to protect that space. Other dogs develop aggressive behavior when other dogs are around, and they want to be protective towards you and your family. According to what causes the aggression, you might need to get professional help to actually help to resolve that aggressive behavior.
A good way of training to decrease the dog’s aggressive behavior is to give him a toy. Then help the dog to drop the toy when being told. A dog naturally thinks that whatever he finds is his. That is normal dog behavior. Therefore they will protect what is theirs. By teaching them how to release for example a toy it will help to get rid of the aggressive and protective behavior.
These are some of the basics you need to implement when training your dog. Helping your dog to master those skills will improve the relationship between the dog and the owner. A trained dog will be a much happier dog.
